A convoy of lightly disguised Proton Saga Cross AMA02 prototypes made a surprise stop at the Proton Hoi Keen 4S dealership in Bandar Indera Mahkota, Kuantan yesterday. While the exact purpose of their visit remains unconfirmed, the convoy gave us our clearest look yet at the highly anticipated compact SUV set to take on the Perodua Ativa.
Several Proton sales advisors, including @khaidirrokawa and @matrapid on Threads, were on site to share juicy close-up shots of the test fleet:

However, the interior remained strictly off-limits. Not that anyone could get a good look anyway—the prototypes were fitted with dark window tint.
With only minimal camouflage remaining, the vehicle’s body lines are much more pronounced. The styling appears to be drawing heavy inspiration from Proton’s existing X-series lineup, particularly the X50.
Out with Saga Cross, In with Proton X30?

This visual connection adds weight to emerging industry rumours that the new model won’t actually carry the Saga Cross moniker as initially expected. Instead, Proton may place this compact crossover directly into its SUV family as the Proton X30.
The AMA02 is slated to be the second model built on the new Proton Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) platform, following the upcoming Saga MC3. First teased during the Proton Tech Showcase last December, rumours suggest the AMA02 will offer a choice between standard internal combustion engines (ICE) and hybrid powertrains.

While Proton has yet to announce an official launch date, supply chain reports indicate mass production is scheduled to begin this month. Given the significantly reduced camouflage on these test mules, an official unveiling might be right around the corner.
