Xiaomi Malaysia has officially launched its new Redmi 17 series. Both the Redmi 17 and Redmi 17 5G are sub-RM1,000 budget smartphones packing a large 7,500mAh battery, a 120Hz 6.9-inch HD 720p display and a 50MP main camera.

While the two phones look similar and share several key features, the main difference is connectivity and performance.

The Redmi 17 5G runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, while the 4G-only Redmi 17 uses a MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra processor.

  • 4GB RAM + 128GB storage – RM799 (Promo: RM769)

From 8th to 31st August 2026, Xiaomi is also offering an after-sales service promotion for the Redmi 17 series. This includes 24-month assurance, one free screen replacement within 24 months, one free battery replacement within 36 months, as well as one free cover or lens replacement service within 24 months.

The Redmi 17 5G is available in Black, Deep Blue and Vivid Orange. Meanwhile, the Redmi 17 4G comes in Oak Green, Deep Blue, Black and Lotus Purple.

Redmi 17 5G Malaysia Specs and Features

The Redmi 17 5G features a large 6.9-inch display pushing a resolution of 1600×720 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and peak 825 nits brightness in High Brightness Mode.

Under the hood, the Redmi 17 5G runs on Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 octa-core processor, which also supports 5G connectivity. For the Malaysian market, it comes with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage.

For photography, there’s a 50MP f/1.8 main camera along with an unspecified auxiliary camera. Up front, the device gets an 8MP f/2.05 selfie camera.

The Redmi 17 5G also features a Dynamic RGB light within its rear camera module, which can provide lighting effects for incoming notifications and calls. Xiaomi says the Redmi 17 series is its first Redmi series to feature a Dynamic RGB light.

One of its biggest highlights is the massive 7,500mAh battery, which supports 45W wired fast charging via USB-C.

For durability, the Redmi 17 5G gets Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, AI face unlock, NFC, dual-band WiFi and Xiaomi HyperOS 3.

Redmi 17 4G Malaysia Specs and Features

If you don’t need 5G, there’s the cheaper Redmi 17, which shares many of the same features as its 5G sibling.

It gets the same 6.9-inch 1600×720 display with an up to 120Hz refresh rate and 825-nit High Brightness Mode.

Instead of a Snapdragon chip, the Redmi 17 runs on the 12nm MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra octa-core processor. The Malaysian model is offered with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. This means not only you lose 5G, the 4G version runs on slower eMMC storage.

The camera setup is similar, featuring a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with a 5P lens and an auxiliary camera, while the front gets an 8MP f/2.05 selfie shooter.

Despite being the cheaper model, Xiaomi hasn’t reduced its battery capacity or charging speed. The Redmi 17 4G still packs the same 7,500mAh battery and supports 45W wired fast charging via USB-C.

It also gets the Dynamic RGB light for notifications and calls, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and an IP64 dust and splash resistance rating.

Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, AI face unlock, NFC, dual-band WiFi and Xiaomi HyperOS 3.
