After being teased and showcased in Malaysia for over three years, the Toyota bZ4X has finally launched in the country in its facelifted form. This is the Japanese marque’s C-segment fully electric SUV, which puts it in competition with the likes of the Proton e.MAS 7, BYD Atto 3, and even the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X, based on its asking price.

Toyota bZ4X Malaysia: Pricing & warranty

Offered in one variant only, the Toyota bZ4X is priced at RM220,000. For reference, the SKD Proton e.MAS 7 is priced from RM103,800, while the BYD Atto 3 Ultra can be had for less than RM124,000.

The Toyota bZ4X is also costlier than both the Zeekr 7X RWD Long Range and Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD, which cost RM193,800 and RM216,450, respectively.

In terms of warranty packages, the Toyota bZ4X comes with a 5-year/unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and an 8-year/unlimited mileage battery warranty.

Toyota bZ4X Malaysia: Specs and features

On the outside, the Toyota bZ4X comes standard with kits such as automatic LED headlights and taillights with the brand’s Adaptive High Beam System, 20″ alloy rims, and an electric tailgate. However, the front hood does not come with gas struts.

Toyota says design details like the hammerhead front design, all the way to the roof spoiler and ducktail spoiler, contribute to a drag coefficient of 0.27Cd. In terms of colour options, the bZ4X can be had in Precious Metal, Attitude Black MC, Emotional Red, DK. Blue MC, and Platinum White Pearl MC.

Powering the Toyota bZ4X is a single front-mounted motor that produces 167kW (227hp) and 269Nm. With a 73.1kWh NMC battery, the EV SUV is claimed to offer a WLTP-rated range of up to 525km. The Toyota bZ4X is capable of handling 150kW DC and 22kW AC charging. The former is said to be capable of juicing up the car from 10-80% SoC in 30 minutes.

Built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, the bZ4X measures 4,690mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,650mm in height, with a wheelbase that spans 2,850mm. It also has a kerb weight of 2,020kg.

Moving inside, the bZ4X is equipped as standard with leather upholstery, 8-way powered and ventilated front seats with memory function for the driver, panoramic sunroof, and a 64-colour ambient lighting system.

You also get a 7″ instrument display, a 14″ infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera system, a digital rear view camera, two wireless charging pads, rear aircon vents, and a total of three USB-C ports — one in front, two at the back.

As for safety, the Toyota bZ4X comes equipped with eight airbags and Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite. This includes the following features:

  • Pre-collision system
  • Dynamic radar cruise control (DRCC)
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
  • Adaptive high-beam system (AHS)
  • Blind spot monitor (BSM)
  • Road sign assist (RSA)
  • Safe exit assist (SEA)
  • Rear cross traffic alert (RCTA)
  • Intelligent park assist

Overall, the Toyota bZ4X packs rather solid specs, but at RM220,000, will you pick it over its rivals, including the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X?
