When you hear a sales claim of 50,000 smart phones sold within 15 minutes, you probably think of Xiaomi. It’s not the case this time as HTC too has a hot seller story of its own in the form of the HTC One E8, which is the plastic brother of the HTC One M8 flagship smart phone.

For HTC to claim such a record sale is quite a big deal considering that the Taiwainese smart phone maker is struggling financially. While HTC tends to position itself as premium brand, the HTC One E8 packs affordable performance considering it uses the same internals as the HTC One M8 but carries a much lower price tag. It is basically the same phone as the One M8 except that its metal body swapped for plastic and its Duo Ultrapixel camera set up replaced by a standard 13MP shooter.

In China it went on sale for just 2,800 Yuan which converts to about RM1,445. With the specs compared with other flagship models today, nothing else comes close in pricing. With Chinese smart phone makers like Oppo, Huawei and Xiaomi disrupting the smart phone industry, HTC could replicate the same success by offering the best spec at a lower price point worldwide.
