Following several teasers on its social media channels, Sime Darby Motors has officially confirmed that the BYD M6 will be heading to Malaysia this month. The electric MPV is set to become the fourth BYD EV in our market after Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal.

The confirmation came via a post on BYD Cars Malaysia’s Facebook and Instagram pages which also said that the EV will be launched on 15 October. While the post did not mention the EV by its name, it is quite obvious as to which model that appears in the accompanying image:

At the moment, it is not yet known which version of the BYD M6 that Sime Darby Motors will launch in Malaysia. In general, the MPV can be obtained with either a 6-seater (2+2+2) or a 7-seat (2+3+2) configuration.

Featuring a front-wheel drive setup, the higher-end variant of the M6 can be obtained with a 150kW (201hp) electric motor that can also deliver 310Nm of torque. This setup is similar to the recently launched 2024 BYD Atto 3 with enhanced specs as well as the BYD Dolphin Extended Range.

With this particular motor, the MPV can get from 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds. This setup also includes a 71.8kWh battery which allows it to deliver an NEDC-rated range of 530km.

On the other hand, there’s also the lower-spec variant which features a less powerful 120kW (160hp) motor although it still can deliver the same maximum torque of 310Nm and 180km/h top speed. That being said, this variant has a smaller 55.4kWh battery which resulted in a shorter NEDC-rated range of 420km.

The M6 can support DC charging up to 115kW for the higher-spec version and 89kW for the lower-spec model. For AC charging, it appears to retain a single-phase 7kW onboard charger similar to other BYD models in our market.

In terms of dimensions, the BYD M6 is 4710mm long, 1810mm wide, 1690mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2800mm. As a comparison, it appears that the M6 is slightly smaller than the Toyota Innova Zenix which has a wheelbase of 2850mm as well as being 4760mm long, 1850mm wide, and 1796mm tall.

On the inside, it looked almost similar to the old BYD e6 at a glance. However, the M6 has received several notable upgrades including a new steering wheel design and driver selector.

It also features the familiar 12.8″ rotating screen on the dashboard alongside a 360-degree camera and support for Apple CarPlay. Safety equipment has also been upgraded with a total of 6 airbags along with BYD’s comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which include adaptive and intelligent cruise control, automatic emergency braking, door open warning and predictive collision warning.

Other amenities include a wireless phone charger, ventilated and powered front seats, a panoramic glass roof and support for Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) which turns the fully electric MPV into a power bank to power your domestic home appliances.
