Report: The entire Mac lineup to get M4 chip by 2025, at least one model to get “dramatic changes”

Aside from reporting on Apple Intelligence’s absence in Cuppertino’s September event, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has also reported that new Mac models, including the MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac will mapple ake their launch featuring M4 chips this year. Additionally, the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro are also reported to receive their M4 updates in 2025. The 2024 iPad Pro is currently the only model rocking Apple’s M4 chip. No Mac models have received the said chip just yet.

M4 chip to finally come to all Apple Macs

The latest versions of the MacBook Pro and iMac models made their debut at Apple’s “Scary Fast” event held in October last year (2023), featuring the brand’s M3 chips. The MacBook Pro got a new Space Black colour option, along with a new entry-level model that replaced the old 13” MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

Not many changes were made to the 24-inch iMac however. The Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard that came with it continue to feature Apple’s proprietary Lighting port, instead of the more modern USB-C ports.

Aside from the introduction of the new M4-based Macs this year, Gurman isn’t anticipating Apple to introduce more products before the new upcoming MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro are made into reality next year. However, the iMac update is particularly interesting, as the product did not receive an update with the M3 chip, with its latest iteration having debuted back in January 2023 featuring the M2 Pro chip.

At least one Mac model will get “dramatic changes”

Mark Gurman stated that there will be at least one Mac model that will get more dramatic changes. Since transitioning to Apple Silicon, the majority of the models in the Mac lineup have received a major design overhaul. This includes the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac. The Mac Pro and Mac Mini on the other have not.

The Mac Pro was last updated nearly two years ago in 2022. Although its heart has been swapped out for Cuppertino’s own Apple Silicon, it practically featured the same design as the previous 2019 model.

Looking pretty much the same since 2010 is the Mac Mini. Still, it went through some changes, including the removal of its DVD drive. It also sports a different array of ports from its predecessor over a decade ago.

Could either one of these models receive a major update as per Gurman’s prediction? Both models could be in the list for all we know.
