TNB will be testing off-peak rates for selected TNB Electron EV chargers very soon. This was revealed by the company’s Lead (Partnership) PMO-EV, Mohd Suhairi Mohammad Shah at the Malaysia Autoshow earlier today.

Off-peak EV charging rate offers savings of up to 20%

TNB Electron Off-Peak Charging

Officially called the Night-time Savings Programme, the trial will take place from 1 June and last until 31 August 2024. During that period, the charging fee at these selected TNB Elections would be reduced by up to 20% from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM.

Based on our calculations, this is how the discounted rate should look like:

  • R&R Tapah Northbound 80kW: RM2.05/min RM1.64/min
  • R&R Tapah Northbound 100kW: RM2.35/min RM1.88/min
  • R&R Ayer Keroh Northbound (2 x 90kW): RM2.20/min RM1.75/min
  • R&R Paka Northbound (2 x 90kW): RM2.20/min RM1.75/min

The exact discounted rate was not mentioned during Suhairi’s presentation today. However, we were informed that once the off-peak hour period sets in, users will be able to spot the discounted charging rate inside the Go To-U app.
