OnePlus, now directly under Oppo, has set an official date for the launch of its flagship phone the OnePlus 12, in its home country of China. Set your date for 5 December as the phone will be officially launched then, with the global launch coming just around the corner according to reports.

OnePlus sent out official images of how the phone would look via a media alert, so the usual leakers did not take too much of the spotlight from the brand. The phone looks similar to the OnePlus 11, with the oversized camera module on the back. In fact, it looks very similar to the OnePlus Open, which in turn looks very similar to the Oppo Find N3 (PSST, the last two phones are in fact, the same phone).

The back features four circle cutouts, with one of the cutouts for the dual LED flash. The rest will be for the cameras, which based on official OnePlus postings on Weibo, will be the same cameras OnePlus put in the OnePlus Open. It is led by a 48MP main camera with a 1/1.43-inch Sony LYT-T808 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, a 48MP ultra-wide with a 1/2-inch Sony IMX581 sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a 64MP telephoto camera with an f/2.6 aperture and 3x optical zoom. There is also a 13-channel multi-spectral sensor to enhance the camera setup’s capabilities.

Another interesting design choice is the use of a marble-texture design for the back of the phone. Unlike the OnePlus 11, the 12 looks to have streaks of marbling throughout the back glass, giving it a bit more texture than the flat green of the 11. OnePlus is calling it “Flowy Emerald.”

A return to the brand is wireless charging, last seen with the OnePlus 10 Pro. There is no official confirmation of how fast the wireless charging will be with the new OnePlus flagship, but previously OnePlus has deployed 50W wireless charging, so we may see something closer to that speed with the OnePlus 12. There is also a chance that the phone may adopt the new Qi2 charging instead.

OnePlus also shared that they moved the position of the Alert Slider, which is traditionally on the right side of the phone, to the left side. This OnePlus says is so that they can “introduce a new integrated antenna and the Alert Slider solution on the new device to deliver an enhanced antenna performance for gaming.”

Other notable features includes the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a new “2K Oriental Screen”, an IR Blaster and maybe even the inclusion of Dynamic Island with OxygenOS 14.

The phone is set to launch next week on 5 December, with the potential international launch sometime in January based on online reports.
