RydeEV Malaysia Launch

Back in September, Yinson GreenTech (YGT) launched an experience centre for its sub-brand called RydeEV that focuses on micro-mobility solutions including electric motorcycles. At that time, the company did not announce when exactly its RydeEV offerings would be made available to the public.

However, a recent activity on its Facebook page may have accidentally revealed the rollout date. At 12:30 PM today, a new post was published on the page which said that customers can obtain electric motorcycles from RydeEV starting from 1 December onwards.

Fast forward to around two hours later, the launch date was then removed from the post although other texts remain untouched.

RydeEV electric motorcycle pricing

One of the major points that were covered by the social post is pricing. As noted in our previous report, RydeEV does not sell its electric motorcycles directly to consumers.

Instead, the YGT sub-brand offers its electric motorcycles on a lease-to-own basis. The lease rate mentioned on the Facebook page is still the same as what RydeEV announced during the launch of its experience centre in September:

  • RydeEV Ryder 3-year contract: RM299/month
  • RydeEV Ryder 4-year contract: RM250/month
  • RydeEV Hyper 3-year contract: RM430/month
  • RydeEV Hyper 4-year contract: RM339/month

Throughout the contract duration, subscribers will also be provided with an unlimited battery swapping plan. The bike’s insurance, road tax, and maintenance will be covered by RydeEV as well.

Once the contract is over, you can only need to pay RM1 to RydeEV and the bike will then be yours. To keep it operational though, you have to continue to pay for the battery subscription plan since RydeEV motorcycles work exclusively through battery swapping.

RydeEV Ryder quick specs

RydeEV Electric Motorcycle

This electric motorcycle was originally a TailG Warrior before RydeEV rebadged it into a Ryder. Featuring a 2kW (2.68hp) electric motor with a peak torque of 120Nm, the Ryder has a maximum speed of 65km/h.

Powered by two removable Oyika batteries with a total capacity of 3.35kWh, the bike has a maximum range of 100km. This is provided that the bike’s average speed is kept to 55km/h.

RydeEV Hyper quick specs

Similar to Ryder, YGT took an existing electric motorcycle and rebadged it into a RydeEV model. In this case, the company has chosen to transform the Okla MX into the RydeEV Hyper.

Equipped with a 4kW (5.36hp) electric motor that also produces 180Nm of torque, the Hyper has a much higher top speed of 90km/h. Interestingly, RydeEV claimed that this model also can deliver 100km of range when ridden at an average speed of 55km/h.

This is despite Hyper being heavier than the Ryder. Not only that, it is also still being powered by two 1.65kWh Oyika Gen-3 batteries.

RydeEV battery swapping stations

Speaking about the battery, RydeEV aimed to deploy battery swapping stations at 100 locations by the end of 2023. During the launch event back in September, RydeEV already had 15 battery swapping stations throughout Klang Valley (not inclusive of its Experience Centre) according to its Managing Director, Syed Ahmad Faiz.

It is unclear whether this deployment plan is still on track though. This is because the amount of battery swapping stations shown on the Oyika mobile app today is still 15.

Given that RydeEV electric motorcycles depend entirely on battery swapping, it is quite fundamental for the YGT sub-brand to have a substantial amount of swapping stations. Otherwise, these electric motorcycles would not be a viable option for consumers.
