DC Handal is the latest EV Charge Point Operator which exclusively offers DC fast charging. It appears that its Bamboo Hills charging hub is opening very soon as they have taken off the wraps of its brand-new Kempower charging stations.
As mentioned earlier, this covered EV charging location has four Kempower DC fast charging satellites which are connected to a single Kempower cabinet. Depending on the load and EVs connected, it can deliver a maximum output of 200kW for 800V vehicles or up to 120kW for 400V EVs. This charger setup is similar to Gentari’s EV Charging Hub at Bangi Golf Club and it uses dynamic power sharing to ensure efficient utilisation of available capacity to charge several EVs at the same time.
At the time of writing, these chargers have been condoned off and the screens have been covered as well. Earlier this afternoon, the folks at Caricarz managed to get up close to the chargers and shared photos of the pricing and the contactless payment interface.
The DC Handal Bamboo Hills location has a card terminal which lets you tap your contactless credit, debit or prepaid card to start charging. If you wish to get a copy of the receipt, you can also enter your mobile number on the terminal.
As shown on the display, the DC charger costs RM1.50 per kWh which is the same price as Gentari’s Kempower DC chargers at Bangi Golf Club. This means topping up a 50% charge (about 30kWh) for the BYD Atto 3 or Dolphin Long Range versions would cost RM45.
DC Handal has EV Roaming agreement with ChargEV
If you prefer to use an app to activate, DC Handal chargers have already appeared on ChargEV’s app and they are also listed at RM1.50 per kWh. While it appears to be available, take note that these chargers are still not accessible yet and are still under private testing.
Interestingly, another DC Handal charger in Penang has also appeared on ChargEV. This location at Choo Plaza is currently listed as “Under Maintenance” and they offer two CCS2 DC fast charging nozzles that can deliver up to 90kW each. Based on our checks on PlugShare, this DC Handal location is currently the most powerful DC charger on Penang Island as other providers are only offering up to 50kW. Similar to the Bamboo Hills location, the Choo Plaza chargers are also priced at RM1.50 per kWh.
