After some back and forth, it turned out that Tesla Model Y customers in Malaysia will receive a complimentary Tesla Wall Connector after all. The home charger will be delivered through the Tesla Home Charging programme.
Essentially, the programme is identical to what we reported back on 14 July. Through the programme, customers will be provided with the Wall Connector on a complimentary basis but they still have to pay for the installation themselves.
However, today’s announcement does come with additional details. For example, customers must order their Tesla EVs from Tesla Malaysia by 31 October 2023 if they want to be eligible for the Tesla Home Charging programme.
In addition to that, the installation must take place at the address that customers have provided in their order form. Not only that, the Wall Connector must be installed within 3 months after the customers received their Model Y.
Else, it will be forfeited as the device is not being provided as a standalone item. As you might expect, the Wall Connector have to be installed by Tesla Approved Installers which will be announced by the company soon.
Speaking about the installation, Tesla Malaysia said that it costs RM2,200 to install the Wall Connector at the customer’s location. This fee covers standard installation work and equipment such as the switch, circuit breakers, residual current devices, and the distribution box.
Customers also need to pay RM36 per metre for the electrical cable or RM60 per metre if they want armoured cable instead. Those who reside in Sabah or Sarawak also have to pay an additional installation fee of RM300.
Warranty-wise, the Wall Connector which is valued at RM2,880 is covered by a 12-month warranty while there is a separate 12-month warranty for the installation workmanship. If customers require additional Wall Connectors, they are allowed to purchase up to two more units for each Tesla that they owned.
Available for order through Tesla Malaysia website, the Tesla Model Y is priced from RM199,000 for the RWD base model, RM246,000 for the AWD Long Range and RM288,000 for the AWD Performance. In case you missed the huge fanfare from the launch event, here’s a recap of the Model Y from the launch:
