Samsung recently launched their refreshed TV line-up for 2023 which includes updates to the Neo QLED 8K series, Neo QLED 4K series and QLED 4K series. The updates see improvements made to picture quality, audio quality, design, and feature sets. In light of this, Samsung Malaysia is offering discounts of up to RM4,500 on select models from the new TV line-up until the 24th of May 2023.
The discounts are part of Samsung Malaysia’s “Free TV Upgrade” promo, where it advertises to automatically upgrade select models to the next tier up within the same series or the next series up for free. Essentially, Samsung Malaysia is slashing the price of select TV models to match the price of the models one step below.

If you’re confused about whether to add the upgraded TV model or the model before the upgrade to your cart, you don’t have to worry about that. Samsung Malaysia’s online store will automatically swap to the upgrade model at the checkout stage. Therefore, you can add either one to the cart, but I would recommend adding the upgrade model to be safe.

Upgrade to Q70C QLED 4K
Going from the Q60C to the Q70C won’t change the lighting system because you get the cheaper edge-lit LED system on both models. To compensate for this shortcoming, both TVs use a Dual LED system which alternates between warm and cool LEDs along with Quantum Dot colour support.
There is also image processing to help enhance the picture quality and here is where the Q70C gets a more powerful version of the Quantum Processor 4K image processor compared to the Q60C. If you’re looking at this TV for your gaming console or PC, then you are getting a real upgrade over the Q60C.
Firstly, the Q70C gets a 120Hz panel compared to the standard 60Hz panel on the Q60C and the Q70C also gets variable refresh rate (VRR) support. Besides that, you also get a more robust Game Bar software on the Q70C that adds something called Minimap Zoom. Essentially, the TV can split its screen into two with one side displaying an enlarged crop of the mini-map.
Ignoring this gimmick for a moment, given the rest of its gaming features, you are getting a better TV for gaming with the Q70C for the price of the Q60C.
Upgrade to QN85C Neo QLED 4K
For the same price as the Q80C, you are getting a real upgrade in terms of lighting technology with the QN85C. Compared to a couple of dimming zones found on the Q80C’s traditional direct LED lightning, the QN85C features a more advanced Mini LED lighting with a much higher number of dimming zones.
This dramatically increases image quality as the QN85C has finer control of its lighting, allowing it to more precisely light up the LCD pixels. Moreover, the QN85C gets a Neural Quantum Processor 4K and Neo Quantum HDR processors while the Q80C gets the same Neural Quantum Processor 4K but a downgraded Quantum HDR+.
Besides image quality, there’s also an upgrade in audio performance as the QN85C features two front-firing speakers, two subwoofers and two top-firing speakers for Dolby Atmos support.
As for gaming, both models are comparable to each other with support for 120Hz and VRR across all four HDMI ports. One thing to note is that the QN85C only gets support for the standard AMD Freesync while the Q80C supports AMD Freesync Premium Pro. However, in terms of marketing, this is fair given the QN85C is the entry-level model in its series while the Q80C is the flagship model of its series.
Seeing how the QN85C provides an impactful upgrade in picture quality over the Q80C, getting the QN85C for the price of a Q80C packs the most value in this promo.
Upgrade to QN800C Neo QLED 8K series
Honestly, if you can justify spending over RM15,000 for a TV, you should just stretch your budget a little more and get the top-of-the-line Neo QLED 8K QN900C. That said, if you’re looking for the most reasonable way to get a Samsung 8K TV, this promo could be just for you.
The QN800C offers notable upgrades over the QN700C. While both use Mini LED lighting technology, the QN800C features a higher number of dimming zones. Moreover, the QN800C gets Neural Quantum Processor 8K and Neo Quantum HDR 8K Plus processors, which enables Real Depth Enhancer Pro. This feature analyses objects on the display and enhances them individually. A feature that is absent on the QN700C as it uses a lower-tier image processor.
Both TV models are equipped with Samsung’s Object Tracking Sound software where the sound moves with the object across the screen. However, the QN800C gets an additional two upward-firing speakers along with four front-firing speakers and two subwoofers. It also has a more powerful amplifier delivering 70W compared to 50W on the lower model.
As for gaming, the only way you’re going to get playable framerates at 8K is if you have a powerful gaming rig or use an up-sampling software like Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X can barely hold 60fps at 4K in most AAA titles.
But should you choose to game on the QN800C, it does support framerates up to 120Hz with VRR and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. This is a nice upgrade over the QN700C’s 60Hz panel though it still keeps all the other gaming features.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Neo QLED 8K series is the only one to get Samsung’s One Connect box this time around. The One Connect box is a separate device that holds all the ports for the TV. What this allows you to do is have all the cables running to the One Connect box and have a single, proprietary cable running from the box to the TV. This reduces the wire clutter around your TV and makes for a cleaner look.
So, if you want to experience what Samsung’s 8K TV can provide without spending too much, the QN800C is a good middle ground considering you will be paying the same as for the entry-level QN700C.
