BMW Malaysia has officially launched the first-ever iX1 at Malaysia Autoshow 2023. This is BMW’s latest fully electric compact all-wheel-drive SUV that’s based on the popular BMW X1 and it competes directly against the Mercedes-Benz’s EQA.
The BMW iX1 xDrive30 M Sport (U11) for Malaysia gets a compact electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM) on each axle and it can produce a maximum output of 230kW (308hp) and 494Nm of torque on overboost. It can do 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 180km/h. The iX1 gets a 64.7kWh battery with a rated driving range of up to 440km (WLTP cycle) on a single charge.
As a comparison, the larger BMW iX3 has a single motor delivering 282hp and 400Nm of torque. However, the iX3 gets more range at 461km from a bigger 73.8kWh battery.
The iX1 can support AC charging up to 11kW and DC fast charging up to 130kW. According to BMW, you can charge up this EV SUV quickly from 10-80% in just 29 minutes. Owners can check the status remotely via the My BMW App and review all charging interactions through the BMW Charging Dashboard.
The iX1 xDrive30 M Sport is said to mirror technology from the BMW X1 models which are described as the most agile SAV in the premium compact segment. The fully electric SUV gets Adaptive M Suspension as standard which helps to adapt to road conditions and driving styles dynamically for improved ride comfort and long-distance capability. The iX1 has a decent-sized 490-litre boot that can be expanded up to 1,495 litres with the rear seats folded down.
In terms of advanced safety features, the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport comes with Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Plus. These features include Hill Start Assist, Speed Limiter, Attentiveness Assistant, Lane Departure Warning with active steering intervention. Front Collision Warning and Left Turn Warning, which comes with braking function, speed limit info and evasion assistant.
As announced early this year, the BMW iX1 comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard as part of the Smartphone integration package, and it also gets wireless charging tray, Connected Package Professional, Connected Drive Services, Teleservices, Intelligent Emergency call and tyre pressure indicators.
In terms of colours, the BMW iX1 is offered in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Cape York Green, M Portimao Blue, Storm Bay and Space Silver. Meanwhile, the interior trims come in either Alcantara Black with Blue Contrast Stitching, Leather Vernasca Black or Leather Vernasca Mocha.
The BMW iX1 xDrive30 M Sport is officially priced at RM285,800 (on the road, without insurance) with Extended Warranty and BMW Service & Repair Inclusive. As a comparison, the single-motor BMW iX3 M Sport is priced at RM322,800. This includes BMW’s 5-year unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service programme and 8-year / 160,000km warranty for the battery, as well as access to BMW Roadside Assistance and Accident hotline, BMW Group Loyalty+Mobile App and BMW Service online.
BMW Malaysia is also offering a Dynamic FInancial Programme where you can own the BMW iX1 xDrive30 M Sport from RM3,290 per month. This is based on an estimate of an 80% loan on a 7-year tenure.
