ChargEV has announced that it will start decommissioning its older NewMotion AC Chargers located at 18 Petronas stations as part of its upgrading process. According to the EV charging network, the move is part of its ongoing commitment to provide the best charging experience for EV drivers.
ChargEV has provided a list of AC Chargers that will be decommissioned which are located at Petronas Stations in the Central and Eastern Region. This includes Sprint Highway, TPM, Puchong Gateway, Solari Putra, Solaris Serdang, Putra Height, East West Link, Kesas (Arah Timur KM34.5), Sg Buloh Layby, Elite Highway, NKVE, Grand Saga, NPE Taman Desa, Shahpadu Highway, Genting Sempah, Bentong R&R, Karak Highway KM72 and Peramu 2.
ChargEV says the upgrade process requires the decommissioning of their AC chargers as they believe that the long-term benefits will significantly enhance the charging experience for all EV drivers. It added that they are committed to minimising any disruption to their service during the process.
Most of these legacy AC chargers installed by ChargEV are non-networked which require a physical ChargEV card to activate. These days, most EV chargers can be activated via a smartphone which anyone can start using immediately after downloading an app and signing up for an account.
ChargEV says they will be keeping users updated on their roaming collaboration for Gentari and JomCharge chargers. This means users will be able to find and activate other DC chargers at Petronas stations on the ChargEV app, which provides wider access to even more chargers in a single app. As announced during Automechanika Kuala Lumpur 2023, the cross-access charging across ChargEV, Gentari and JomCharge is expected to be completed by June this year.
