The first 100 buyers of the BYD Atto 3 in Malaysia have just gotten the keys to their brand-new electric vehicles. The Atto 3 is currently the most affordable electric SUV in Malaysia that’s priced from under RM150,000.
The BYD Atto 3 was launched last month and it has received over 1,000 orders within 10 days. Sime Darby Motors Malaysia’s Managing Director of Retail & Distribution, Jeffrey Gan said “With the delivery of the first BYD Atto 3 vehicles to the Malaysian market, we look forward to maintaining our momentum with more units currently enroute and slated to reach Malaysia very soon. We will continue to drive the acceleration of EV adoption in Malaysia and as we expand our EV portfolio with world-class partners such as BYD to bring exciting innovations to the market, we strive to cater to the growing demand for environmental-friendly options amongst Malaysians, fueling the nation’s aspirations towards achieving low carbon mobility.”
While interest in EVs has increased in the past year, stock availability remains a major issue for most brands in Malaysia. Some EV models sold in Malaysia have a long waiting list that stretches close to two years or more.
BYD Malaysia seems to have a leg up against its competitors with higher stock allocations for its Atto 3. As shared on Twitter, a shipment of 500 Atto 3 units are currently on its way to Malaysia and this is probably the largest shipment of EVs to the country. Looking at the sheer volume of incoming stocks and its competitive price tag, BYD is expected to be the best selling EV brand in the country. And that’s before considering other incoming models like the cheaper BYD e6 five-seater MPV, Seal sedan and Dolphin hatchback.
Besides its first showroom at TREC, Jalan Tun Razak, the Chinese EV maker is also growing its dealership network with three more outlets set to open in Ara Damansara, Penang and Johor by mid-2023. It also aims to have 20 dealerships throughout Malaysia including the East Coast and East Malaysia by the end of this year.
