Maxis removes unlimited calls from its Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited RM35 plan

Maxis’ prepaid brand Hotlink has introduced a couple of new plans recently which provide “unlimited” data with higher FUP for selected apps. After revamping its prepaid passes, it appears that Maxis has downgraded its original “unlimited” data and call plan that’s priced at RM35/month.

As pointed out by one of our readers, the RM35/month plan which offered “unlimited” data (3Mbps) and unlimited calls to all networks no longer comes with calls included. The Hotlink app now shows the plan as “Data only” which (exclude calls). Interestingly, the weekly RM12 and daily RM3 passes still come with local calls included. It is alleged that Hotlink updated its pass without notification and customers will have to fork out RM40 to activate the next best plan in order to get voice calls.

The RM40/month plan was introduced in June and it offers “unlimited” data and hotspot, which are also capped at 3Mbps. There are also unlimited local calls and uncapped high-speed data access from 2am to 2pm.

It looks like the change was made recently as Maxis has not updated its FAQ. As shown above, it is still stated that the RM35 monthly plan still comes with unlimited local voice calls. In case you didn’t know, these “unlimited” plans come with a monthly Fair Usage Policy (FUP) of 50GB. After hitting the limit, your speeds will be throttled to 512kbps until the pass is renewed.

For casual and light users who need unlimited calls and find little use for hotspot usage, it previously made more sense to stick to the older RM35/month plan. With this new change, it looks like Maxis is forcing its subscribers to pay RM5 more each month to enjoy both unlimited calls and data on their mobile device.

Thanks @Boeing747S8 for the tip!
