It looks like wearable tech is going to be a big thing next year and everyone wants a piece of the pie, including Google. The Wall Street Journal says Google is close to completing the development work of its smartwatch. According to the newspaper, Android-powered smartwatch will be integrated with Google Now and could be ready for mass production “within months” claiming that the search giant is already in talks with suppliers in Asia to begin mass production soon.
Citing a source familiar to the matter WSJ adds that Google is reportedly working hard to extend the time between charges by reducing power consumption. In addition Google is aiming to improve on the major weakness of smartwatches that are currently in the market — limited functionality.
The smartwatch together with Glass could put Google way ahead of competitors as competition heats up on the new and very fertile wearable tech market. Even HTC and Apple have indicated interest in wearable tech and whatever the case may be, we’re excited to see what the next 12 months will reveal.
