COVID-19: 5,586 new cases reported today, total deaths approaching 5,000 mark

Malaysia has recorded 5,586 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 734,048. There are 60 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 4,944.

The Ministry of Health has reported 4,777 new recoveries and a total of 667,709 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 90.96% while the mortality rate is at 0.67%.

There are currently 61,395 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 886 are in ICU while 446 require respiratory support.

Out of the 5,586 new cases today, 3 are imported while 5,583 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 2,212 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 628 cases, Sarawak with 513 cases and Negeri Sembilan with 501 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 17 new clusters today and 9 are workplace-related. Below is the breakdown of new clusters based on states and categories:
