COVID-19: Record-high 6,075 cases today, 2,251 reported in Selangor

Malaysia has recorded 6,075 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 485,496. This is the highest recorded in a single day since the start of the pandemic. The previous record high was 30th January 2021 with 5,728 cases and this is the first time Malaysia recorded more than 6,000 cases in a day.

The Ministry of Health has reported 46 new COVID-19 deaths which brings the death toll to 2,040. There are 3,516 new recoveries and a total of 436,116 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate has dipped to 89.83% while the mortality rate is at 0.42%.

There are currently 47,340 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 559 are in ICU while 303 require respiratory support.

According to the breakdown, Selangor recorded the most with 2,251 cases, followed by Johor with 699 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 660 cases, Kedah with 445 cases and Kelantan with 441 cases.

For the past 7 days, Malaysia has recorded a total of 272 deaths, which is 57% of the total COVID-19 deaths recorded for 2020. The current average daily COVID-19 deaths is at least 3 times the number of deaths caused by road accidents.
