Engadget has gotten their hands on a Google Nexus One running on Android 2.2 codename Froyo (Frozen Yogurt). They have played with the device and have review the list of changes and enhancement which we can all look forward to in the next Android update.
Enhancements noted as follows:
- Revised navigation bar with direct short cuts to phone and web.
- Ability to create WiFi hotspot using your 3G connection.
- Allow HQ version of Youtube streaming video.
- Allow installation of Apps in external storage such as your micro SD card
- Improved camera controls.
- Enhanced gmail app for next/previous item buttons.
- Fine tuned Calendar viewing.
- Improved voice recognition with various dialects.
- Ability to set numeric PIN instead of pattern lock
- Flash 10.1
- Improved benchmark performance
Speaking of Flash 10.1, it is now released as Beta but unfortunately it takes Android 2.2 (Froyo) as a minimum requirement. No chance for existing Android 2.1 or below to enjoy Flash 10.1 for the time being. Now it all depends on respective handset manufacturers to release an update for Android 2.2 when it is officially revealed.
