COVID-19: 919 new cases and 996 recoveries recorded today

Malaysia has recorded 919 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 43,791. There’s 1 new death reported and the death toll is now 303.

The Ministry of Health has reported 996 new recoveries and a total of 32,069 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 73.2% while the mortality rate remains at 0.7%.

There are currently 11,419 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment. 92 are in ICU while 35 require respiratory support.

Out of the 919 new cases today, 3 are imported while 916 are transmitted locally. Sabah recorded the most with 319 cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 240 cases, Selangor with 174 cases and Penang with 63 cases.

The Ministry has identified a single new cluster today which is the Teluk cluster in Kota Kinabalu. A total of 42 active clusters have recorded new clusters today. The Cergas cluster recorded the most with 221 new cases, followed by Kaya cluster with 51 new cases and Tapak Bina Damanlela cluster with 30 new cases.

Despite the slight increase in new cases today, Malaysia has been recording less than 1,000 daily cases for 5 straight days. According to MOH, the infection rate (R0) in Malaysia is less than 1.0 for 4 consecutive days. It aims to reduce the rate to 0.5 within the next two weeks.
