Studio Ghibli releases 400 images for you to use however you want

Like many others, I am a huge fan of Studio Ghibli movies. Hayao Miyazaki’s world-building in Ghibli animations are both bizarre and comforting. And if you’re anything like me, you’d be pleased to know that the studio has released 400 free-to-use images from eight of its classic movies.

“From this month, we will provide scene photos of all Studio Ghibli works in sequence. This month, we will provide 8 works, mainly new works, for a total of 400 pieces. Feel free to use it within the bounds of common sense,” said the studio on their site.

Here are some examples of images released by Studio Ghibli:

Spirited Away

Tales from Earthsea

Ponyo

The Secret World of Arrietty

From Up on Poppy Hill

The Wind Rises

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya

When Marnie Was There

Studio Ghibli also plans to release images from all of its films over time. But for now, a total of 400 images from 8 films means that you can look through them in detail and appreciate the artwork and illustrations that make the films.

You can also use them for desktop wallpapers (like I have), and use them for your phone wallpapers. You can even use them to customise your iOS 14 home screen—if you want.

Previously, Studio Ghibli also released images that would be good for video conference backgrounds. But there’s no harm in looking through the 400 images to find yourself your own personal favourite background picture. I’m partial to this one.
