Here’s what the Apple Marina Bay Sands orb looks like on the inside

Remember the new Apple orb in Singapore that we’ve previously reported? We can finally see what it looks like inside, thanks to the company’s official preview of the sphere in Marina Bay Sands.

“We couldn’t be more excited to open the breathtaking Apple Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, building on our commitment to this special place that began more than 40 years ago. Our passionate and talented team is ready to welcome this community to our new store and deliver the care and support that our customers around the world love,” said Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail + People.

The orb itself

The orb is “entirely surrounded by water”, and if you’re inside you can look at a 360 degree panoramic view of Singapore as well as the skyline. The third Singaporean Apple store is an all-glass dome structure comprised of 114 pieces of glass with just 10 narrow vertical mullions—it’s also the first of its kind.

The design was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, providing lots of light for the space. The glass itself is also custom-made so that it will look good whether it’s day or night—with trees lining the interior of the dome to provide additional shading.

Interior

Visitors when they enter the store will “encounter a dramatic reveal into the massive volume of the dome”, according to Apple. There are several areas inside the orb that people can explore—including where Apple products and accessories are showcased, tech support, a Video Wall which will serve as the stage for Apple sessions, and Apple’s first underwater Boardroom.

There will be a large team manning Apple’s giant orb from Thursday, 10 September 2020 at 10 am onwards. It will be a 148-person team at Apple Marina Bay Sands who collectively speak over 23 languages. The store itself will also implement rigorous health measures for both employees and visitors, like for all Apple Store locations—including a mask requirement, temperature checks, and social distancing.

Capacity will be limited, so guests may experience wait times before entering the store. For their launch date this Thursday, they will only let people in if they have appointments—which you can make here.
