The navigation app Waze is introducing a convenient new feature allowing users in the U.S. to use a contactless payment system when they refuel at certain stations. Users will be able to link Waze to fuel partner apps for contactless payments at Exxon, Mobil, and Shell stations.
If you’re in the U.S.—and have downloaded Waze on iOS or Android—you’re already able to use their fuel payment integration with ExxonMobil and Shell. Just link Waze with the participating gas station network’s payment app.
You’ll also need to download the participating gas station’s relevant payment apps, like their Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app, or the Shell US & Canada app. After that, you should start seeing a notification within the app promoting social distancing and will ask you to “pay for gas from your car”. Those who pay contactless also qualify to earn rewards through the loyalty programs via the payment apps.
The Waze integration system, however, hasn’t yet reached Malaysia. When it comes to contactless payments for fuel in this country, there’s Setel (iOS, Android) by Petronas and coming soon, Touch ‘N Go and Shell are also introducing RFID fuel payments.
