AirAsia offers 23% off promo to celebrate lower Passenger Service Charge

Effective 1st October, AirAsia passengers can enjoy lower Passenger Service Charge (PSC) at KLIA2 and other international airports where it operates. The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, had announced a revision of the PSC for passengers travelling outside of ASEAN from RM73 to RM50.

According to AirAsia’s Group President (Airlines), Bo Lingam, the low-cost carrier will proceed to charge the lower PSC from 1st October 2019. In the official release, he said “the fact that the Cabinet has chosen to reduce the applicable PSC to RM50 demonstrates that the PSC rates set by the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) are maximum rates rather than fixed rates, consistent with statements made by Mavcom. For this reason, we believe there is no need for further gazetting of the lower PSC rate for it to become effective on 1 October 2019.” He also said a fair PSC will hugely benefit not only air travellers but also the tourism industry and economy as a whole.

To thank its guests and supports, AirAsia will be having a 23-hour “Shared Prosperity” promo on 1st October 2019 with a 23% discount on all seats to destinations beyond ASEAN. This includes destinations such as Tianjin, Melbourne, Seoul, Jaipur, Tokyo and Taipei, for immediate travel through to 9th February 2020. To book your flights, you may do so on AirAsia.com, AirAsia mobile app and it also includes hotel bookings. There’s also special discounts for merchandise and duty-free items on ourshop.com.

Apart from PSC, AirAsia will remove its processing fee for flights to, from and within Malaysia starting 1st October 2019. For other countries such as Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, the processing fee will be removed by 31st December 2019. At the moment, AirAsia charges as high as RM24 for processing fee per pax for a return trip.

Earlier this month, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) has fined both AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd RM200,000 each for charging processing fees on credit card, debit card and online banking transactions.
