Recently, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) released a statement that warned Selangor residents of impending water disruptions for 4 days (the 23rd of July up till the 26th of July). The was due to work being done on the LRA SSP1 Sungai Selangor treatment plant that will improve the water supply to Selangor, Putrajaya, and Kuala Lumpur.
However, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS) has just announced that 3 Sungai Selangor treatment plants have been shut down due to “odour pollution in the Sungai Selangor raw water source”. The areas affected include Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, and Hulu Langat, with water supply and water pressure issues expected.
This means that around 1,133 areas involving 1,166,842 customer accounts may be affected by the issue. As a result, the planned water disruptions from 23–26 July will be postponed, although it’s not known when regular water supply will resume. This is, according to Air Selangor, due to the fact that the source of the odour pollution has yet to be determined.
“As we and the state government are unable to detect the cause of the pollution, this incident can repeat itself. Therefore we cannot give a timeframe on when the water supply will be restored at this time,”
