Tim Cook rubbishes claims that Jony Ive is leaving due to frustration with Apple’s leadership

Apple’s chief designer Jony Ive is leaving Apple to pursue his own design company. Shortly after the announcement, there were reports by the WSJ that alleged that Jony Ive was “dispirited” by Tim Cook that favoured operations rather than product development process. It was also claimed that Jony Ive had disagreed with some of Apple leaders’ decision on the positioning of the Apple Watch which left the company with thousands of unsold gold Apple Watch Editions.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook had refuted such claims and he says that such reporting was absurd and it doesn’t match with reality.

In a letter to Dylan Byers of NBC News, he says that the report showed a lack of understanding on how the design team works at Apple. Cook says the way the report describe the relationships, decisions and events is a company that they don’t recognise.

Exclusive: In scathing email, Apple CEO Tim Cook tells me the @WSJ report about Jony Ive’s departure — and his frustration with Cook’s alleged lack of interest in design — is “absurd.” Says reporting and conclusions "don’t match with reality.”

Tim Cook insists that Apple has a phenomenal and talented design team and they are stronger than ever under its current leadership. Although Jony Ive himself hasn’t spoken up after his announced departure, the chief designer will still continue to work closely with Apple on a range of products.
