Oppo, the smartphone brand that’s often associated with selfies, is about to unveil their latest breakthrough for front cameras. After playing around pop-up selfie camera designs, the Chinese smartphone maker will unveil its new under-display camera technology at MWC Shanghai that’s happening this week.

Ahead of the event, Oppo has released a teaser video which walks through its previous camera innovations which include the Oppo N3 that came with a rotating camera, the Oppo Find X with its slider mechanism and most recently, the Reno series that features a wedge-shaped pop-up design.

For the upcoming device, it will be an all-screen smartphone that has a hidden camera on the top middle of the display. From the looks of it, the new model will come with a dual-curved display, which is similar to the Oppo Find X, except that there are no complicated moving parts. The new prototype device will be unveiled tomorrow at 2PM.

Unlike a punch-hole display, the under-display camera is hidden and it won’t sacrifice any display real-estate. As demonstrated in Oppo’s tweet above, the top part of the display will be switched off only when the front camera is required. If you don’t need it, you can enjoy a full edge to edge display experience.

At MWC Barcelona which was held early this year, Oppo had showcased its 10X Hybrid zoom technology and it turned out to be the new Oppo Reno 10X Zoom edition. Since Oppo is showcasing the new camera technology now, there’s a possibility that a production model could be released at the end of this year.
