Car sharing provider, SOCAR, currently has 300 cars on its fleet. To celebrate its new milestone, they are offering a new promo where you can book a car from as little as RM3 per hour or RM30 per day. If you haven’t tried SOCAR, this is probably the best time to give it a spin.
To recap, SOCAR is basically an on-demand car rental service which you can request from your mobile phone. There’s no paperwork involved and they charge your bookings directly to your credit card. You can book a car hourly or for a full day subject to availability. Unlike typical car rentals, petrol is included for free up to 30KM per hour or 300KM per day.
A petrol card is provided, so just make sure that the tank is at least 50% full before you return the vehicle. Overall, the cars are still very new and from our experience, most of their mileage are below 5,000KM.
There are a couple of vehicle types on their fleet and the most affordable of the lot is a Perodua Axia which is now going from RM3/hour or RM30/day instead of the usual rate of RM8/hour or RM80/day. Below are the car options available with this new promo that’s valid from 7 until 13 May 2018.
Perodua Axia – RM3/hour or RM30/day
Perodua Alza – RM4/hour or RM40/day
Toyota Vios/Honda City – RM5/hour or RM50/day
Honda HRV – RM6/hour or RM60/day
Take note that the rates above are before taxes. Unfortunately, the 3-door Mini Cooper isn’t included with this promotion but you can still book at the normal rate.
All SOCAR vehicles are keyless so you have to use your smartphone to unlock the car and press on the push to start button to start the engine. You can learn more in our announcement post.
If you’re new to SOCAR, just sign up over here. For first time drivers, you would need to send a picture of your IC (or passport) and your valid driving license for registration. We recommend that you do this first step early before booking a car.
While petrol is included, take note that you are responsible for any additional parking and tolls so it is recommended that you bring your own Touch n Go card (ideally with SmartTAG). Since your smartphone acts as the key for the car, bringing a fully charged powerbank is also recommended.
