Ultra-rugged, tough smartphones come and go, but how often do you actually get a phone that actually comes with a thermal imaging camera and a laser?
The latest from CAT, is the CAT S61, an extra tough smartphone that doesn’t just come with a FLIR thermal imaging camera but also a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) sensor that detects air quality and can warn you if you are in danger. On top of that, its IP68 dust and water resistant and can survive 1.8 meter drops onto concrete thanks to its Spec 810G rating.
Also, the phone comes with a tiny, tiny laser out back, in case you feel like you need to measure something.
But all those extra bells and whistles don’t come cheap, as the phone costs a good USD$1000 (about RM3914), which makes it more expensive than a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and on par with the iPhone X. As far as the specs go, you’ll be getting a mid0range Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 mated to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, alongside a pretty huge 4,500mAh battery.
However, it is a smartphone for professionals, so while it is truly tough, it’s not nearly as top-of-the-line as you’d expect for the price but you could probably drop it down a mineshaft and still find it working days later.
The CAT S61 hits the market in Q2 2018.
