The iPhone Duo is a massive financial investment, but picking up Apple‘s first foldable device is only half the story.
With its complex hinges and folding screens, the phone is just as costly to fix if it breaks.
Without extra protection, a damaged device will lead to a shocking repair bill.
The inner folding screen is the priciest part to fix, costing RM4,749 for an out-of-warranty replacement. In fact, repairing this display alone costs more than buying a brand new iPhone 17.
A broken outer screen costs RM1,799, whilst replacing cracked back glass costs RM909. If a drop breaks both the outer screen and the back glass, the bill climbs to RM2,389.
Replacing the protective cover layer costs RM199. Normal parts are also pricey, with a new battery costing RM1,049 and rear camera fixes billed at RM1,009.
If the foldable suffers severe water damage or gets completely crushed, Apple charges a maximum other damage fee of RM7,119.
If you don’t want to experience bill shock, it’s highly recommended that you take up AppleCare+ with your iPhone Duo.
Priced at RM1,499 in Malaysia, the plan extends the standard one year hardware warranty and 90 days of technical support to two full years. More importantly, it gives you unlimited accidental damage protection and zero fees for mechanical faults.
Crucially, it provides unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection and zero service fees for mechanical defects.
With the plan, repair costs drop sharply to low fixed fees, as fixing the fragile inner display drops from RM4,749 to a flat RM469.
This same RM469 fee also applies to severe accidental damage, saving you from the RM7,119 maximum charge.
Minor accidents become far more affordable, with outer display and back glass replacements costing RM139 each, whilst cover layer repairs cost just RM99. Battery servicing is completely free if the health capacity falls below 80%.
The coverage applies to the iPhone Duo and the original charging cable. Apple uses genuine new or previously used parts that pass strict functional tests for all hardware services.
Notably, the cheaper RM139 fee for screen or back glass damage requires the chassis to be free of bent enclosures. Any structural deformation pushes the claim into the RM469 tier.
Furthermore, if you utilise the Express Replacement Service to receive a new unit before returning your broken phone, Apple automatically categorises the claim under the RM469 rate.
If you’re still deciding whether to fork out RM1,499 for AppleCare+, you would need to act fast. This extended warranty and protection add-on is only available during within 60 days of purchase.
You can purchase by going to your iPhone Duo’s Settings and search for AppleCare & Warranty or at the Apple Store and authorised retailers.
