According to Huawei, the Huawei Watch GT 7 series comes with the Diabetes Risk Study feature. This is a research initiative led by Universiti Malaya.
Essentially, this feature uses pulse-wave signals collected by the watch’s PPG sensor together with information such as age, gender, height and weight to assess potential diabetes risk after three to 14 days of continuous wear.
However, Huawei added that this assessment aimed to raise awareness for its users and encourage them to seek professional medical advice. It is not meant to diagnose diabetes.
“Technology cannot replace a doctor, and a smartwatch cannot diagnose diabetes. What it can do, however, is encourage us to pay closer attention to our health.” – Dr Mohd Izzar Anwari bin Abdul Khani (Special Officer, the Office of the Deputy Director-General of Health)
