SPX Express EV is now in service: Starting with DFSK EC35 electric vans for Klang Valley

SPX Express has just become the latest delivery company to add electric vehicles into their fleet. For the initial batch, the company has gone with 10 units of the classic and proven DFSK EC35 electric van, which were sourced from Sunway Group’s subsidiary, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Malaysia.

Truth be told, SPX Express’ EV journey is still in its early days. So, the company didn’t discuss any specific details regarding its electric delivery vans, such as the operation zones and EV charging setup at its hub.

That being said, SPX Express did reveal that it will initially utilise these new electric vans for daily deliveries in Klang Valley first. At the same time, the company also want to evaluate the EC35 performance and feasibility across multiple delivery conditions, as part of the integration into its fleet.

DFSK EC35: A common go-to electric working horse in Malaysia

Made its way into our market sometime in 2022, the DFSK EC35 is one of the first electric commercial vans in Malaysia. There are not many options for electric commercial vans out there, hence the EC35 (both DFSK and rebadged versions) eventually became one of the go-to choices for many companies.

With a cargo capacity of 4.8m3 and maximum payload of 1,015kg, the EC35 can deliver between 200km and 275km of range. While that might not sound much, it is generally sufficient for daily parcel deliveries, which are usually zone-based.

Here’s a top-level look at other aspects of the DFSK EC35 that SPX Express has added to its fleet:

  • Powertrain: RWD 60kW (81hp), 200Nm torque
  • Top speed: 90km/h
  • Battery: 38.7kWh LFP
  • Charging: CCS240kW DC / 6.6kW AC
  • Charging time (20% – 80%): 39 mins DC / 4 hrs AC
  • Dimensions: 4,500mm (L) x 1,680mm (W) x 1,985mm (H)
  • Wheelbase: 3,050mm
  • Gross Vehicle Weight: 2,600kg

Other notable features include a 9-inch Android-based infotainment display, triple reverse parking sensors, reverse camera, automatic headlights, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), anti-lock brake system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and airbag for the driver.
