Aside from launching the Huawei Pura 90s series, Huawei Malaysia also unveiled the MatePad Air 2026, an upgrade to the MatePad Air that was introduced in 2023.
This new model comes with numerous notable upgrades, including an OLED PaperMatte display, a six-speaker audio system, and a higher-resolution camera.
Despite the announcement, the tablet is not yet available for purchase in Malaysia, and its official local pricing has yet to be revealed. However, in the European market, the tablet is offered at the following prices:
This tablet is expected to arrive in the Malaysian market soon. It will be available in three colours: blue, white and pink.
For comparison, the previous-generation MatePad Air model was priced at RM2,799 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant and was only available in the Graphite Black colour option in Malaysia.
The Huawei MatePad Air 2026 now features a 12″ screen, slightly larger than the 11.5″ screen on its predecessor. It has also been upgraded to an OLED PaperMatte display with a 2.8K resolution (2800 x 1840), a 144Hz refresh rate, and ultra-thin 4.6mm bezel. The display is capable of reaching a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits.
To enhance the multimedia experience, the display is paired with a 6-speaker audio system featuring a crossover design, which is claimed to deliver a more immersive listening experience.
In terms of performance, Huawei has yet to officially reveal the chipset powering the tablet. However, it is believed to be powered by the Kirin T93C chip. This is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. While the tablet does not support 5G cellular connectivity, you can still take advantage of WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity.
For photography, the tablet features a 50MP rear camera and a 12MP front-facing camera. It is also equipped with a large 10,100mAh battery that supports 66W fast charging via USB-C. Huawei claims the battery is capable of delivering up to 16 hours of continuous video playback.
Despite having a large battery capacity, Huawei has managed to keep the tablet slim and lightweight, measuring just 5.3mm thick and weighing 509 grams. The body is also claimed to be up to 17% more bend resistant than its predecessor.
For productivity, the tablet supports the M-Pencil Pro stylus, which offers smart features such as speech-to-voice conversion, handwriting refinement function, and AI Tutor. It also includes a touch-free remote control feature that is especially useful for presentations.
The tablet also comes preloaded with the GoPaint drawing app and the WPS Office ecosystem. Out of the box, it runs the HarmonyOS 4.3.0 operating system.
