The Huawei Mate candybar smartphone series is back with the launch of the Mate 80 Pro here in Malaysia. The last Mate phone series to launch locally was the Huawei Mate 50 Pro over 3 years ago.
The new flagship phone was launched alongside the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5, Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 in Green and the Huawei FreeClip 2 Rose Gold.

The Huawei Mate 80 Pro is offered in a single configuration with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Here’s the official pricing in Malaysia:

The Mate 80 Pro comes in three colours – Gold, Green and Black.
As an introductory promo, Huawei Malaysia is offering freebies worth up to RM2,115. This includes the Huawei MatePad 11.5 and Huawei Premium Services worth RM816.

The Huawei Mate 80 Pro features a 6.75″ 120Hz Full HD+ (2832 × 1280) LTPO OLED display and 1440Hz PWM dimming.
For improved durability, it also features Huawei’s 2nd generation Kunlun Glass for the front, while the rear gets vegan fibre back panel with a Dual Space Ring design.
Under the hood, it runs on the Kirin 9030 Pro chip mated to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of non-expandable storage.

The new Huawei flagship boasts a “True-to-Colour” camera system that aims to deliver true-to-life colours in both light and dark situations.
It features a 50MP Ultra Lightning main camera (1/1.28″) that offers a variable aperture of f/1.4-f/4.0, a f/2.2 40MP ultra-wide-angle camera (1/1.28″) and a 48MP f/2.1 Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto camera (1/2.8″) that offers 4x optical zoom.
There’s also a “fourth sensor” that acts as a “True-to-Colour” camera to ensure consistent and accurate colour output. For selfies, the device comes with a 13MP front facing camera along with a ToF 3D Sensor for secure face unlocking.

To enhance your photography experience, the Huawei Mate 80 Pro comes with several AI-assisted features. This includes AI Composition for real-time framing guidance. Other features include AI Remove to remove unwanted objects and AI Best Expression which captures multiple shots to ensure that you get the best group shot possible.
In terms of connectivity, the Mate 80 Pro supports 802.11be WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and 4G. The device also has IP68/IP69-rated dust and water resistance.
Keeping the lights on is a generous 5,750mAh battery and supports 100W fast wired Huawei SuperCharge and 80W Wireless Huawei SuperCharge.

Unfortunately, for Malaysia it lacks 5G support. Out of the box, it runs on EMUI 15.0 and users can discover and download apps securely from the Huawei AppGallery.
