Proton X90 MC1 now official: Powered by i-GT 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, starts from RM99,800

Proton has officially taken the drapes off the 2026 Proton X90. The newly refreshed D-segment SUV is the latest and final current-generation Proton model to migrate from the old GEP3 3-cylinder engine to the new i-GT 4-cylinder engine.

Unlike the original X90 mode,l which was positioned as a flagship product, the 2026 X90 MC1 focuses more on affordability. This is reflected not only in its pricing but also in the features it offers or lacks.

2026 Proton X90 MC1 Pricing, Colourways, Warranty

Instead of having 4 options as per the original X90, Proton has revamped the variant list to just 3 trims for the new X90 MC1. Here’s how much they cost:

  • 2026 Proton X90 1.5TD Lite: RM99,800
  • 2026 Proton X90 1.5TD Prime: RM109,800
  • 2026 Proton X90 1.5TD Prime X: RM115,800

The pricing above is inclusive of the RM7,000 launch rebate. The 2026 X90 can be obtained in Marine Blue, Armour Silver, Snow White and Jet Grey as well as a new option called Quartz Black.

Each 2026 X90 comes with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty alongside 5 years of free labour during service. This model is also eligible for the National Matching Grant Programme for the Replacement of Old Vehicle, which provides up to RM4,000 rebate in exchange for your non-roadworthy vehicle.

The first 2,000 customers who registered their new X90 by 30 June 2026 can also take advantage of up to RM3,000 overtrade support. They are also eligible for an enhanced Proton Insurance Program.

2026 X90 MC1 vs the original X90 – what’s the difference?

As mentioned earlier, the 2026 X90 is powered by a 1.5L i-GT turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 133kW (178hp) and 290Nm torque. Still featuring a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), Proton claimed this year’s model has fuel consumption of 6.9L/100km.

This years’ model is also a pure ICE model as compared to the original X90, which was a mild hybrid model. As a comparison, the 3-cylinder engine inside the 2023 X90 combined with the 48V Belt Starter Generator (BSG) has a total output of 140kW (188hp) alongside a maximum torque of 307Nm.

For the 2026 version, all variants received the same 18-inch wheels, unlike the original model, where the high-spec variants were provided with 19-inch wheels. Furthermore, the 2026 X90 is fitted with Giti’s GitiControl P10 tyres instead of Goodyear EfficientGrip or Continental EcoContact 6 as per the original model.

As per our previous report, the 2026 X90’s 12.3-inch infotainment system also comes standard with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. That said, it does not include in-car cellular connectivity features, and the “Hi Proton” voice command feature is also absent.

On a related note, the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) has also been omitted from the 2026 X90. The model still has 6 airbags, while there is also a 360-degree HD camera system with 180-degree Transparent View function, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Digital Video Recorder (DVR) on selected variants.

Power tailgate is also absent from the 2026 X90, although it does feature new utility roof rails that can support up to 75kg of load.
