If you’re travelling to, from or transiting through the Middle East, you may want to double check your flight before heading to the airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued a travel advisory following recent airspace closures in parts of the Middle East, which may result in operational disruptions to certain international flight services.

According to CAAM, airlines operating to and from the affected region may experience delays, flight retiming, rerouting or cancellations due to evolving airspace restrictions and operational considerations. The authority stated that such measures are undertaken in the interest of safety and in compliance with international aviation requirements.

CAAM said it is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining engagement with relevant airlines to ensure that passenger interests continue to be safeguarded.

What you should do before going to the airport

Passengers travelling to, from or transiting through the affected regions in the Middle East are strongly advised to regularly check their flight status directly with their airline before departing for the airport.

If you’re flying from KLIA, you can also check the status of the flight via the Flight Information page.

CAAM also advises passengers to ensure that their contact details in booking records are accurate and up to date so they can receive notifications of any changes. Typically airlines will notify passengers via email, Whatsapp and SMS. Alternatively, you can also install the airlines’ official app to get the latest updates of your booked flight.

If your flight is affected, you should contact your airline directly for rebooking options, refunds or further assistance.

Airlines reminded of consumer protection obligations

At the same time, CAAM has reminded all airlines operating flights to and from Malaysia of their obligations during this period.

Airlines must notify passengers promptly of any changes to scheduled departure or arrival times, including delays, rescheduling, rerouting or cancellations. They are also required to provide appropriate care, assistance and available travel options in accordance with the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code (MACPC), and maintain clear, timely and transparent communication throughout the disruption period

Passengers who believe their rights under MACPC have not been observed should contact the airline first to seek for a resolution. If the matter remains unresolved, passengers can file a complaint through CAAM’s official consumer channels for further review.

CAAM said it will continue to monitor developments and work with industry stakeholders to ensure safe operations and the protection of consumer rights.
