A Look Inside the All-New Maxis Centre at 1 Utama: What’s Different?

This post is brought to you by Maxis.

Visiting a telco store usually means one thing: taking a queue number and waiting to sort out a bill or sign a contract. It’s functional, but it’s rarely a place you’d browse for fun.

With their newly renovated Maxis Centre at 1 Utama, Maxis is shifting that dynamic. Opening its doors on Friday, 6th of February, the new space moves away from the traditional “transaction-only” layout. It introduces a retail concept focused on how technology actually fits into your daily life.

Whether you’re a gadget enthusiast or just looking for a weekend activity with the family, here is what you can expect if you drop by.

Beyond the Counter: The Lifestyle Partnership Area

The biggest change to the store layout is the shift towards experience zones. It’s not just rows of counters anymore. The first thing you’ll notice is the design. It uses sustainable materials, wood accents, and natural tones to feel less like an office and more like a modern living space.

Maxis has introduced distinct areas like My Home, which features a dedicated Kids’ Corner to keep little ones occupied.

Perhaps the most unique addition is the new Lepak Zone. True to its name, this area is designed specifically for self-browsing and discovery in a relaxed setting. It removes the pressure of standing at a counter, allowing you to explore products at your own pace.

If you do need help, you won’t be stuck standing in a line. The store uses a Smart Switch notification system, which alerts you at your table when an assistant is ready, so you can keep browsing or relaxing while you wait.

For those who prefer speed, there are 100% self-serve kiosks for bill payments and SIM replacements, plus a dedicated counter for picking up online orders immediately.

Hands-On with New Tech

If you are into gadgets, the My Gadgets and My Lifestyle zones allow you to test full ecosystems (like smart home setups or travel accessories) in a realistic environment rather than just looking at a box.

The store has curated partnerships with brands to offer more interactive experiences:

  • vivo Mixed Reality (MR): You can try out vivo’s Mixed Reality headset in-store. It’s a good opportunity to experience immersive tech firsthand.
  • HUAWEI Smartwatch Workshops: Instead of just reading a spec sheet, you can join a workshop to learn how to fully utilise HUAWEI’s wearables for health and sports tracking.
  • Eco-Friendly Upcycling: In collaboration with ERTH, the store features an e-waste bin where you can conveniently drop off unused phones, chargers, and laptops, ensuring they are recycled properly.

These collaborations are selected to match active lifestyles, giving visitors a chance to ask questions and test products in a low-pressure environment.

The Opening Deals

If you were planning to upgrade your device, the timing is strategic. In conjunction with the opening and CNY, Maxis is offering free 5G smartphones, including models from Samsung, vivo, OPPO, HONOR, and Xiaomi, for customers signing up for Maxis Postpaid plans during this period.

The all-new Maxis Centre at 1 Utama is a welcome update that makes the space feel more relevant to modern shoppers. It transforms a standard utility errand into a genuine retail browsing experience.

The store officially opened on Friday, the 6th of February, at 10:00 am. If you are in the area, it’s worth a look.
