Maxis migrates mission-critical workloads, including Maxis and Hotlink apps, to AWS Malaysia Region

Maxis has completed the migration of its mission-critical workloads from Amazon Web Services’ Singapore Region to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Malaysia Region, becoming the first Malaysian telecommunications provider to achieve this milestone.

According to Maxis, the migration covers 100% of its digital workloads, including the Maxis and Hotlink apps that serve millions of customers.

By hosting these workloads locally, the telco said it has reduced latency, resulting in faster response times and a smoother user experience. Maxis added that the move also improves operational efficiency and creates a more cost-effective operating model by eliminating cross-region data traffic.

The migration was led by Maxis’ internal cloud engineering team, highlighting the company’s technical capabilities developed since it began its cloud journey with AWS in 2016.

Chief Information Officer at Maxis Ng May Ching said, “By bringing our mission-critical workloads home, we are securing our data within Malaysia’s borders while improving efficiency to better serve our customers. This ensures our infrastructure is resilient and future-ready to support the nation’s digital agenda.”

Chief Enterprise Business Officer at Maxis Prateek Pashine said, “Navigating local cloud migration for our own operations reinforces our ability to help Malaysian businesses achieve the same outcome. We are well-positioned to help customers address data sovereignty requirements while delivering the fast, reliable, and secure connectivity they need for responsive performance.”

Country Manager of AWS Malaysia Hussein Mohd Ali said, “Telecommunications networks are the unseen infrastructure that keeps Malaysia’s digital economy running — powering millions of critical services every day. By building on the AWS Malaysia Region, Maxis’ successful migration demonstrates what’s achievable, and positions them to guide other Malaysian enterprises through their own cloud transformations.”

Maxis said this milestone further strengthens its partnership with AWS. As an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner and AWS Direct Connect Partner in Malaysia, Maxis says it provides guidance to businesses looking to build, optimise, and integrate secure, high-performance cloud connectivity.
