Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 has introduced the green and red lane system to speed up customs clearance after the baggage claim area.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the the move aims to reduce congestion and to speed up passenger flow for international arrivals at the airport.
The new system will run as a trial for a month from today, 26 January until 26 February 2026.

Similar to what has been implemented in other countries, passengers with no goods to declare may proceed to the green lane for quicker exit without undergoing X-ray scanning.
Meanwhile, passengers carrying dutiable, prohibited, restricted, or unsure if their items are permitted into the country, can proceed to the red lane for customs inspection.
According to the Minister, there will be three exit lanes after the baggage collection area which consists of two green lanes and one red lane.
While the system helps to smoothen passenger flow, he said it will not compromise national security.
He added that enforcement officers from the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) will continue to conduct random checks and will use risk intelligence and flight manifest data to direct any high-risk passengers to the red lane for inspection.
If the green and red lane system is successful, it will be extended to KLIA Terminal 2 and other international airports such as Penang and Kota Kinabalu.
Clear signages for the green and red lanes have been installed to guide passengers, while LED displays will be added later for better clarity.
