Poco M8 and M8 Pro: Xiaomi’s latest mid-range 5G smartphones priced from under RM1,000

Xiaomi Malaysia is kicking off the new year with the introduction of the Poco M8 and M8 Pro. These are affordable mid-range smartphones that boasts “flagship-inspired” 5G smartphone features for the masses.

Both 5G devices offer a large 120Hz AMOLED display, dual speakers with Dolby Atmos and big batteries with capacity up to 6,500mAh.

As you would expect from a new Poco smartphone, you can get more savings with its early bird pricing.

Poco M8 and M8 Pro Malaysia Pricing

The Poco M8 is now available for purchase in Malaysia and here’s the official pricing:

  • Poco M8 5G 8GB + 256GB – RM999 (Promo: RM859)
  • Poco M8 5G 8GB + 512GB – RM1,199 (Promo: RM959)

You can purchase the M8 on Poco’s official store on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok.

If you’re looking for something more upmarket, there’s the Poco M8 Pro 5G and here’s the pricing in Malaysia:

  • Poco M8 Pro 5G 8GB + 256GB – RM1,199 (Promo: RM1,099)
  • Poco M8 Pro 5G 12GB + 512GB – RM1,499 (Promo: RM1,299)

The M8 Pro 5G is available for purchase on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok.

Both devices are offered in Green, Black and Silver colourways.

Poco M8 Specs and Features

The Poco M8 is the cheaper sub-RM1,000 option with the early bird rebate. It features a 6.77″ 120Hz Full HD+ (2392×1080) AMOLED display that boasts a peak brightness of up to 3200 nits.

According to Xiaomi, this is the thinnest smartphone in the series measuring at 7.35mm thick and it weighs 178g.

Under the hood, it runs on a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 mated with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage. It also supports microSD card expansion up to 1TB.

The Poco M8 gets a dual-camera setup which consists of a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with a 1/2.88″ Light Fusion 400 Image Sensor and a 2MP depth shooter. For selfies, it comes with a 20MP 1/2.2 front camera that sits in a punch hole.

This 5G device supports 802.11ac WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, in-screen fingerprint sensor and IR blaster. It also gets a pair of dual stereo speakers with Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos. The device also has IP66-rated dust and splash resistance.

Powering the device is a 5,520mAh battery that supports 45W turbo charging via USB-C and up to 18W wired reverse charging.

Poco M8 Pro Specs and Features

If you’re looking for a phone with more performance, faster WiFi and bigger battery, you can step up to the Poco M8 Pro 5G. It gets a larger 6.83″ 120Hz 1.5K (2772×1280) AMOLED display that boasts 3,200 nits of peak brightness along with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The M8 Pro runs on a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip mated with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage. According to Xiaomi, the device brings a major upgrade to the M Series with an AnTutu score of 1,061,253.

In the camera department, it gets a better camera setup with a 50MP 1/.6 main camera with a 1/1.55″ Light Fusion 800 image sensor and an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera. Meanwhile, the front gets a 32MP selfie shooter that also sits in a punch-hole.

The device features symmetrical stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio and it supports WiFi 6/WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, in-screen fingerprint sensor, NFC and IR blaster. The device gets Poco IceLoop liquid cooling for improved thermal management and Xiaomi Surge T1S tuner for stronger signal reception and a more stable connection.

For greater durability, the Poco M8 Pro 5G also has IP68, IP69 and IP69K-rated dust and water resistance.

Powering the Poco M8 Pro is a larger 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery. It supports 100W HyperCharge charging where a full charge takes about 40 minutes. It also doubles as a quick charge powerbank as it supports 22.5W wired reverse charging.

Compared to the standard M8, the Pro is slightly thicker at 8.31mm and it weighs 205.9g.
