Telco services surrounding Kuala Kangsar, Perak were disrupted following a fire involving a communication tower this evening.

According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the fire incident occurred on 27th December 2025 at around 6:50pm at Kampung Kelebor, Kuala Kangsar. The tower, which is owned by Maxis, houses equipment for both Maxis and CelcomDigi.

Due to the fire, telco coverage and services were disrupted for CelcomDigi, Maxis and Unifi Mobile customers. Affected areas include Kampung Kelebor, Kampung Langkap Ketior, Kampung Rambai 7, Kampung Menora, Kampung Senggang, Kampung Ulu Kenas and Kampung Lempor.

Service disruption was also reported at the Sungai Perak Rest and Service Area (R&R) along the North–South Expressway (PLUS).

MCMC said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. They added that access to the affected site has been restricted by authorities to allow further investigation by relevant agencies, including the BOMBA.

In response, MCMC has directed the affected service providers to carry out immediate restoration measures including a comprehensive recovery plan to address the coverage disruption.

As an emergency measure, MCMC has also deployed temporary satellite WiFi services using Starlink at the Sungai Perak R&R Northbound to ensure highway users are able to stay connected.

MCMC has also instructed tower owners and service providers to tighten maintenance procedures, technical inspections and continuous monitoring across all communication towers, in line with network reliability requirements and user safety considerations.
