Proton Tech Showcase has been scheduled to take place from 5 to 7 December, according to the event listing on Proton e.MAS official Facebook page. We believe the event, which will be opened to the public, might become the first outing of the much-rumoured Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV.

Set to take place at Proton Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Shah Alam, the header photo on the listing featured Proton e.MAS 5, as well as the newly launched 2026 Proton Saga and Proton X50. However, Proton e.MAS 7 was somehow missing in the picture.

That being said, there is a silhouette of a car that appears to have the same design lines as the Proton e.MAS 7. Here’s the event description as shown on the listing which further added to our suspicion that we might be able to get our first look at the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of e.MAS 7:

“The PROTON Tech Showcase is your chance to explore PROTON’s latest electrified line-up — the e.MAS 5, e.MAS 7 and a first look at the newest model in the family.

You’ll get to see how these cars are put together for Malaysian roads and daily life, with features and specs that match what we actually need out there.

Additionally, you can take the e.MAS 5 and e.MAS 7 out for a test drive, check out the activity zones, grab a bite at the food trucks, and wander through the partner booths. It’s an easy way to get to know PROTON’s growing EV range, up close and in person.”

Even though battery-powered EVs are getting more popular in Malaysia, many consumers are still not confident to make the switch due to issues such as range anxiety and charging infrastructure. Instead of going fully electric, they might be more comfortable with PHEVs.

What we know about Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV?

The trademark filings made by Proton last year listed three names, including the e.MAS 5, which was launched on 30 October. So, we are now left with just e.MAS 7 PHEV and e.MAS 3.

For the longest time, the rumour mill has claimed that the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i will be released into our market as the e.MAS 7 PHEV. Furthermore, there have been multiple reports of test car sightings for the past few weeks.

In some international markets, the Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i was renamed to EX5 EM-i. Geely has also released the car as Starray EM-i in selected markets.

Similar to the e.MAS 7/Galaxy E5/EX5, the Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i was built using Geely’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) as its platform. The powertrain within this PHEV consisted of an 82kW (110hp) 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 136Nm of torque that has been paired with a 160kW (~215hp) electric motor that also produces 262Nm of torque.

The Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i also features an LFP battery pack with capacities of up to 19.09kWh, which enables it to deliver a CLTC-rated range of up to 120km or approximately 98km WLTP in full EV mode. This PHEV can support a DC charging speed of up to 36kW, and this allows the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes.

Being a PHEV, the Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i can go much further than its BEV counterpart. Specifically, it can deliver a total range of up to 1,420km once you consider its 51L fuel tank and a combined fuel consumption rate of 3.75L/100km.
