Proton e.MAS 5 will be launched into the market with an estimated price range of RM60,000 to RM80,000. Pro-Net has also revealed that the electric hatchback will come in two variants: e.MAS 5 Prime and e.MAS 5 Premium.

Revealed during tonight’s special livestream, the electric hatchback is now available for booking at any of 42 Proton e.MAS dealerships nationwide with a booking fee of RM99. The EV is expected to be launched sometime in Q4 this year, with deliveries beginning in November.

For the first 5,000 customers, they will be provided with an additional RM500 rebate on the booking fee. In addition to that, early adopters of e.MAS 5 will also receive the limited-edition Proton e.MAS Enhanced Touch ‘n Go NFC card.

Interestingly enough, the TNG NFC card will not come empty as it will be preloaded with RM100 credit. Not only that, customers who have booked e.MAS 5 before today’s announcement, will also be entitled to the Early Bird perks.

Proton e.MAS 5 Variants

Similar to Proton e.MAS 7, the Prime variant is the base model of the e.MAS 5 family. When compared to its Premium counterpart, the Prime version has a smaller capacity 30.12kWh LFP battery that was also sourced from CATL.

While the e.MAS 5 Prime still has a rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup just like the e.MAS 5 Premium, it has a slightly less powerful 58kW (78hp) motor that also produces 130Nm of torque. In terms of road tax, e.MAS 5 Prime owners will only have to pay RM30 per year, according to our EV Road Tax calculator.

With a 0 to 50km/h timing of 4.4 seconds, the e.MAS 5 Prime also has a top speed of 125km/h and a WLTP-rated range of 225km. The Prime variant also has 15-inch steel wheels as opposed to the 16-inch alloy wheels on its Premium counterpart.

In terms of charging, the exact DC charging speed was not revealed to us, but we were told that it takes 21 minutes to charge the e.MAS 5 Prime from 30% to 80%. With AC charging, it takes around 4.3 hours to charge the EV from 10% to 100%.

The e.MAS 5 Prime can be obtained in Moonstone White, Slate Grey, and Graphite Silver with Flint Grey interior.
