The Volvo EC40, previously known as the Volvo C40 Recharge, is now available in Malaysia with a new Single Motor variant. Priced at RM248,888 on-the-road without insurance, it undercuts the dual-motor version by RM40,000.

Volvo EC40 Single Motor Malaysia Specs

Unlike the Twin Motor version, the EC40 Single Motor drives only the rear wheels. The permanent magnet motor is rated at 238 hp (175 kW) and 420 Nm, good for a 0-100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.

Power comes from a 70 kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery with 67 kWh usable capacity. On the WLTP cycle, it delivers up to 488 km of range, compared to 554 km for the Twin Motor.

Charging wise, the EC40 supports up to 200 kW DC fast charging, capable of a 10–80% top-up in 26 minutes. AC charging is capped at 11 kW, taking around 7 hours for a full charge.

For Malaysia, the EC40 Single Motor comes in Ultra trim, which means most of the kit from the Twin Motor is carried over. This includes:

  • 19-inch black diamond-cut alloy wheels (235/50 front, 255/45 rear)
  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 9-inch central touchscreen with Google built-in and Volvo Car Connect Plus
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Harman Kardon sound system
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Dual-zone climate control with PM2.5 air filtration
  • Pixel LED headlamps
  • Panoramic fixed glass roof
  • Powered front seats with driver memory
  • 360-degree camera and hands-free powered tailgate

On the safety front, the EC40 includes seven airbags, Pilot Assist, AEB, lane keeping assist, rear collision warning and avoidance, blind spot monitoring, and cross traffic alert with auto brake.

A new Sand Dune exterior colour debuts on the EC40 Single Motor, first seen on the EX90. Other options are Aurora Silver, Onyx Black and Crystal White. The interior is finished in Charcoal, with suede textile and Microtech upholstery, consistent with Volvo’s move to a leather-free line-up.

The Volvo EC40 comes with a five-year, unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, while the high-voltage battery is covered for eight years or 160,000 km. For a limited time, customers will also receive free first-year insurance (worth RM5,600) and a wallbox voucher (worth RM5,000) with every purchase.
