You might not be able to get RON95 petrol at RM1.99/L if the details on your MyKad and driving licence do not tally with each other. This is according to the latest statement that the Ministry of Finance (MOF) has published on its Facebook page.

Based on an analysis that was done in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport (MOT), MOF has discovered that the driving licence for some individuals does not reflect their 12-digit MyKad number. Instead, their licence still contains old IC numbers, police numbers, or military numbers.

Additionally, the ministry stated that the public must ensure their name is stated accurately on the licence. Not only that, the vehicle class and type must be accurately stated as well.

If there are any discrepancies on your licence, visit the nearest Road Transport Department (JPJ)  branch to update your details. MOF also said that it will work with MOT to update their data weekly to ensure that those who are eligible for the subsidised RON95 will be able to get the benefit.

Under the BUDI95 initiative, eligible Malaysians will be able to obtain RON95 petrol at RM1.99/L starting from tomorrow, 30 September onwards. While there’s no registration required, you can check your eligibility through the BUD95 portal at budi95.gov.my, which also allows you to keep track

Each eligible Malaysian will receive a 300L quota of the subsidised RON95 petrol per month. That being said, eHailing drivers are exempted from this quota.

If you’re not fond of producing your MyKad every time you want to purchase petrol, you can have a much smoother experience by using apps from petrol brands such as Setel and Caltex2Go. Alternatively, you can also utilise TNG eWallet, which is supported at all petrol brands.

Of course, do make sure that you have completed the e-KYC process for these digital apps in order to verify your identity. Only then will you be able to purchase petrol using the BUDI95 allocation via these apps.
