BYD Seal 6 EV first public test drive event is happening on 27 Sept

BYD Seal 6 EV is set to be launched in Malaysia on 26 September. If you are curious to know what the new electric sedan has to offer, then you’ll be happy to know that you don’t have to wait long to get some hands-on experience with it.

This is because BYD Sime Motors will be organising the first public test drive event for Seal 6 EV in Malaysia this coming weekend, from 27 to 28 September at 1 Utama Shopping Centre. Other BYD models will be there as well for the public to test drive, in case you want to check out the company’s full EV range.

The electric sedan is BYD’s third all-new model for Malaysia this year after the Atto 2 electric SUV and Denza D9 electric MPV. At the same time, it has also refreshed several existing models, including Seal and Atto 3.

BYD Seal 6 EV quick specs

At the moment, the official specs of the Seal 6 EV in Malaysia have not yet been announced. However, it is already quite clear from the teasers BYD Sime Motors has released so far that the Seal 6 EV for the international market is not identical to the variant that was released in China.

This is because the Seal 6 EV that is on its way to Malaysia is known as the Qin L EV in China, which is one of the offerings under BYD’s Dynasty series. Hence, its fully closed, angled grille design is in line with the design language of the Dynasty series – similar to the Atto 3 and Atto 2 (below), which are known as Yuan Plus and Yuan Up, respectively, in its native market.

Featuring a rear-wheel drive setup, the Qin L EV in China is available in two main variants. The base model featured a 110kW (148hp) electric motor that also produces 220Nm of torque.

Powered by a 46.08kWh BYD Blade LFP battery, the base variant of Qin L EV can deliver up to 470km of CLTC-rated range. That is equivalent to 385km of range if you convert that figure to the WLTP standards.

The Qin L EV is also available with a 56.64kWh BYD Blade LFP battery alongside a more powerful 160kW (215hp) electric motor with 330Nm of torque. This variant is capable of delivering a higher CLTC-rated range at 545km or around 447km under WLTP standards.

Meanwhile, the base variant supports a DC charging speed of 84kW, which allows it to be charged from 30% to 80% in 24 minutes. On the other hand, the long-range variant has a slightly faster DC charging speed of up to 103kW, but since it has a larger capacity battery, it still takes 24 minutes to charge the car from 30% – 80%.

Both variants were equipped with 7kW AC charging, although we do hope that BYD consider upgrading the module to 11kW for the Malaysian variant. Qin L EV also comes with a 6kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.   

Other notable features of the Qin L EV also include God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100) Advanced Driver Assistance System, 17-inch wheels,  8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.8-inch infotainment screen, and a 6-speaker audio system.

Just earlier this year, BYD introduced a third variant for the Qin L EV. It has the same battery and motor as the long-range model but features additional features such as DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system and TBC high-speed puncture stabilisation system.

The newly introduced variant also has several notable upgrades, including 18-inch wheels, red brake callipers, a head-up display, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, an 8-speaker audio system, a 50W wireless charger with air cooling, and a smart cooler/heater box.
