A camouflaged Proton e.MAS 5 was involved in an accident in Subang Jaya this morning. Most of the images that were shared through WhatsApp and social media showed a tow truck trying to pull out the prototype unit from the nearby ditch.

The accident happened at the exit towards Glenmarie and Federal Highway, not far from the hairpin corner at Jalan Kemajuan Subang in SS16, Subang Jaya. It is a well-known accident hotspot to those who frequently use this route.

It is unclear how much damage the camouflaged e.MAS 5 test unit has incurred from the accident. Despite that, the mishap didn’t cause any fire, although we did notice burst tyres and damaged bumpers.

Meanwhile, Pro-Net has confirmed to SoyaCincau.com that the camouflaged vehicle was indeed a pre-production unit of Proton e.MAS 5. The company also confirmed that it was a minor road accident during a routine test.

Pro-Net added that the accident was not related to any technical issue, and none of the personnel involved were injured. The accident is currently under investigation, and the company has further highlighted that road safety has always been, and will continue to be, its top priority.

Proton e.MAS 5 is currently undergoing road tests nationwide and is expected to be launched sometime in Q4 this year. Dubbed Malaysia’s first affordable EV, the new electric hatchback will soon be assembled at Proton’s new EV plant in its manufacturing complex at Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjung Malim, Perak.
