With over 20,000 units in Malaysia, BYD electric vehicles are starting to become a common sight on our roads. Sometimes, you may spot BYD electric vans too, and not to forget, the Sunway BRT’s BYD electric buses as well. However, do you know that BYD also has its own ships?

Yes, BYD maintain a fleet of shipping vessels to deliver its vehicles all over the world. One of them, which is called the BYD Zhengzhou, has just made its first visit to Malaysia earlier this week.

Powered by liquified natural gas (LNG), the BYD Zhengzhou is a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessel that can carry 7,000 cars at one go. It is named after the city that houses one of BYD’s largest factories, and the ship is the company’s 7th such vessel in its fleet.

Generally, the shipping fleet enables BYD to exert greater control over its supply chain. Hence, it didn’t surprise us that one of its main missions is to help the company deliver its vehicles more quickly to customers in Malaysia as well as the Asia Pacific region.

From the press photos that were supplied by BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors, we noticed majority of the vehicles that they ship were BYD M6 and Denza D9. On another photo that was published on BYD Malaysia’s Facebook page, we also noticed Sealion 7 and Atto 2.

Prior to Malaysia, the ship has also delivered vehicles to Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines. After Port Klang, BYD Zengzhou will visit Thailand before heading back to China.
