Leaked: Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series might be going squircle like the Watch Ultra

Previously, we reported on the potential return of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Classic series with the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. But according to leaked renders, it seems like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series — expected to include the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic — might feature a squircle design, much like last year’s Galaxy Watch Ultra and the Gear Sport from years ago.

The Galaxy Watch 8 series is expected to make its global launch alongside Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable smartphones at the brand’s Unpacked event happening this coming July.

Galaxy Watch 8 Classic to come with Quick Button, smaller battery than Watch Ultra

Based on the leaked CAD renders, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic looks as if the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Gear Sport had a baby. Sporting a similar design language to the Watch Ultra, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is expected to replace Samsung’s Apple Watch Ultra competitor from last year.

Rumoured to only be offered in a single case size option (probably 47mm), the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is also expected to carry the Quick Button that was first introduced on the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

But unlike the Ultra, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is said to bring back the physical rotating bezel, which should not just make navigating One UI Watch easier, but also make a lot of Samsung fans happy.

According to a CB Test Certificate issued by SGS, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic should come with a 435mAh battery. If this sounds a little small to you, well, it’s indeed smaller than the 590mAh unit found in the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. But that’s most probably a sacrifice that has to be made in order to accommodate the rotating bezel.

Galaxy Watch 8: Mini Galaxy Watch 8 Classic with smaller batteries?

Like the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, the regular Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 is expected to also feature the same squircle design, minus the rotating bezel, Quick Button, as well as smaller case sizes.

Speaking of case sizes, the Galaxy Watch 8 will most likely be offered in the same 40mm and 44mm sizes as its predecessors. The good news is, these watches are most probably going to be packed with larger batteries, according to CB Test Certificates issued by SGS.

Specifically, the 40mm model is going to feature a 318mAh battery, while the 44mm model gets a 426mAh battery. For context, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 comes with a 300mAh battery with the 40mm variant and a 425mAh cell with the larger 44mm model. Charging speed is most likely to stay stagnant at 10W, though.
